ADEC HEALTHCARE, NKTI, BAXTER PLAY KEY ROLES IN HELPING RENAL PATIENTSBACK
September 4, 2019, Manila, Philippines—In response to the increasing demand for peritoneal dialysis (PD) among End-Stage Renal Disease patients, the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) forged a partnership with Baxter International, Inc. in the construction of a PD Center of Excellence Facility.
The multi-story facility will have a dedicated warehouse for all PD equipment manufactured by Baxter that will augment NKTI’s PD unit, the largest in the Philippines.
Present during the groundbreaking ceremony were NKTI Executive Director Dr. Rose Marie Rosete-Liquete, Baxter Cluster Head for Southeast Asia and Taiwan Joanna Yao, Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, and representatives from the Department of Health (DOH).
“This is a major milestone in improving access to dialysis,” Yao said in a speech. She also expressed confidence that the new facility will live up to its name and become a center of excellence for PD throughout Asia and the world.
Senator Dela Rosa also lauded the NKTI’s efforts in helping renal patients in the Philippines, while also sharing how one of his relatives was afflicted by a kidney condition. “I laud the upcoming facility for helping the government in providing affordable quality healthcare services to Filipinos,” he said.
Once completed, the NKTI-Baxter PD Center of Excellence Facility will have the capability of addressing the needs of renal patients in the Philippines. Chronic kidney disease is named one of the primary causes of mortality among Filipinos.
Baxter, a leading medical products company with a presence in several countries worldwide, is in the business of promoting healthier lives and reducing the instances of illnesses through their wide variety of medical products for both patients and hospitals.
The company, which has a facility based in Laguna, manufactures the PD equipment provided to NKTI’s patients. Baxter tapped ADEC Innovations Healthcare, Inc. (AIHI) to ensure the proper usage of PD equipment.
Furthermore, AIHI keeps track of renal patients due for PD training and would check on certain patients who missed their training whenever necessary.
As the recommended initial line of treatment for patients with chronic kidney diseases, PD has become the norm among health providers in the Philippines. A number of clinical studies have enumerated the benefits of PD over hemodialysis (HD), including a longer-lasting residual kidney function and greater flexibility in patient lifestyle. It is also the preferred treatment by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), which issued a “PD First” policy among its accredited health providers.
The project furthers NKTI’s mission of providing quality care for patients with renal and allied diseases. For more than three decades, NKTI has been recognized as the leading center for referral of renal patients from regional hospitals nationwide.
In recognition of the partnership between Baxter and AIHI, ADEC Innovations General Manager Jurgen Tanpho, Assistant Vice President for Healthcare Katheryne Gutierrez, and AIHI Senior Sales and Business Development Manager Arlene Ducut were invited for the ceremony.
“We are honored to be working with a global company like Baxter for more than a year already, and we’re looking forward to continuing this relationship with them as they take part in the expansion of NKTI’s PD unit,” Gutierrez said.
ADEC Innovations Healthcare Inc. is also in the business of improving lives by enabling hospitals and health providers to shift their focus towards offering healthcare services that create value.
